Yachats Library

Some photos and reflections from Saturday…

Libraries are essential community infrastructure. Decades of local vision and volunteer energy have brought this new asset to Yachats, and it is fantastic! Pleasure to see State Librarian Wendy Cornelisen, Mayor Craig Berdie, MC David Rivinus and many others who gathered to check it out.

From there, I headed to the Yachats Commons for the District Attorney’s Town Hall. Appreciate your willingness to engage in open dialogue. Lots of questions — and that’s a good thing. DA Wallace’s presentation outlined how her team is structured and how that translates into public-safety capacity. A shared understanding of how our government systems work helps us all.

I wrapped up the day in Newport at the University of Oregon School of Journalism listening session. If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to review the Civic Information Index – https://civicinfoindex.org/

With so much information coming at us each day, filtering out the noise can be a challenge. When local journalism strengthens community connection and supports civic engagement, our communities are better equipped to discern thoughtfully.

Thank you for showing up, sharing perspectives, and engaging in intellectually honest conversations. Follow up research will be forthcoming at – https://agorajournalism.center/research/
