Today, Saturday, Nov. 7, I’ll be at the Newport Recreation Center for the Coastal Pickleball Classic, representing Lincoln County and cheering on Northwest Coastal Housing and everyone coming out to support the event. The Classic is a fundraiser: every game supports Northwest Coastal Housing’s work to keep our coast home for everyone. I’ll be there for much of the day, talking with neighbors and taking photos to share.

For more than three decades, Northwest Coastal Housing has been an important partner in addressing one of Lincoln County’s greatest challenges: ensuring that people have safe, stable, affordable places to call home.
During my four years as a county commissioner, I’ve been proud to support this work alongside my fellow commissioners and community partners. Since 2023, the Board has authorized more than $125,000 in identified grants and nonprofit allocations supporting Northwest Coastal Housing, including $110,000 toward Olalla Meadows, a 30-unit affordable housing development in Toledo. I’ve also advocated for the proposed Gladys Land Apartments in Newport, which would provide 32 affordable homes for seniors and people with disabilities.
But Northwest Coastal Housing’s contribution goes far beyond dollars and buildings. One particularly meaningful example is Coast Vineyard Village in Lincoln City, where Northwest Coastal Housing joined with local government, Coast Vineyard Church, and state partners to create 12 tiny homes offering transitional and affordable housing, including opportunities for families recovering from the devastating 2020 Echo Mountain wildfire.
These are the kinds of partnerships that make our communities stronger. I’m grateful for the dedication of Northwest Coastal Housing’s leadership, staff, volunteers, and supporters. Join us today supporting a simple belief: Everyone needs a place to call home.
